DMX.Artnet

DMX over UDP with ArtNet

ArtNet is natively supported within vvvv and is the way to go for more complex installations. It transmits DMX over UDP and is supported by many professional devices. See pdf What is Art-Net? at detailled specification

DMX over UDP seems to be the way to go in the lighting industry, as it just requires ubiquotuous CAT5 cabling, profits from wireless lans, cheap routers etc. and has the possibility of sending data back from the device to the controller. unfortunately the industry doesnt seem to have settled to one standard yet - anyway there are more and more products with standard ethernet plugs.
ArtNet has the advantage of being an open protocol. Basically it is just sending 512 byte UDP packets with the complete content of an DMX universe in it. it requires a rather strange network TCP/IP setup which makes it a little quirky to integrate into an Office-LAN, but it works well as soon as you have set up everything right - on the other side everything is plug and play as long as you dont have computers in your setup.
MESO used ArtNet successfully to communicate with a GrandMA desk from MA Lighting and Artistic License EtherLynx boxes with 4 dmx ins and 4 dmx outs, which are easy to control with the DMX (ArtNet) ? nodes. One of those Artistic License EtherLynx boxes is used to control a 3D LEDmatrix? built and programmed by kalle.
Catweasel has used the MagicQ pc editor and the Luminex DMX8/W to control vvvv via Artnet, after some strange glitches with the luminex (dont know if it was desk or box) Im now running artnet straight out of the Compulite Vector, which seems to be running without any hitches!
Other vvvv-tested artnet-DMX interfaces are the "ELC dmXLAN nodes" link; link; link

Artnet-Hardware tested with vvvv

Enttec ODE (Open DMX Ethernet)

Finaly a fairly cheap solution to translate Artnet to Pure DMX. Artnet is a protocol just just shouts its information over a network, so connect the Enttec ODE to any hub/switch in your network, and you will have DMX. This device works with the standard DMX (Network) Artnet Sender? node. Cannot tell anything about the speed, because I haven't tested it yet, will be updated!

TobiTobsen123: hmm yes i can see the values...but how to handle them as seperate values? I need to forward them via TCP/IP...
